A Season Full of Possibility, Experimentation & New Stories

Hi everyone,

It’s Anjela and I hope you had a great Summer, we sure did! After celebrating our 25th year, vAct is proud to present our Fall-Winter programming — a season filled with bold Asian Canadian voices, new ideas, artistic experimentation, and opportunities to come together.

This season is about creating space: space for artists to grow, space for new work to take shape, and space for our community to gather, connect, and build a shared culture together.

SEPTEMBER — SPRINGBOARD INITIATIVE
Got an idea? Let’s get it moving.

vAct’s Springboard Initiative is a series of workshops designed to launch artists of all levels into inspiration, collaboration, and new creation. This Initiative came from Derek and I’s passion for continued growth as artists and having teachers of colour show the way. There was just an unsaid shared understanding when an artist of colour is teaching their practice with you.

Our Emerging Artistic Producers Workshop will empower artists to cultivate their own artistic vision, develop new work, and discover viable pathways to bringing their ideas to life. Whether you’re taking your first steps or looking for the tools to take your practice somewhere new, this is a space to learn, connect, and get inspired.

Your growth is in your hands — and it’s FREE.

SPRINGBOARD is FULL, look out for upcoming workshops next time!

OCTOBER — vActory
Come get weird with us.

The vActory Mini-Performance Series is our playground for innovative storytelling and artistic exchange — a space where artists can experiment, take risks, and explore what performance can be. Intimate experimental theatre in a non traditional performance venue is uniquely Vancouver. In a city where real estate costs are high, let us show you the big imagination of artists that can make the most unlikely places extraordinary.

This year, Khalil Alomar, Helen Jiang, and Erika Mitsuhashi, are deep in process exploring performance modalities and experimenting with new techniques. Their work will culminate in a public presentation of three short, brand-new works.

And what better way to guide us through the evening than MC Gracelle Mesina, bringing Tarot divinations, comedy, and a little cosmic chaos to the mix?

Join us at What Lab in Industrial East Vancouver for an evening of experimentation, surprises, and something weirdly delightful.

DECEMBER — CREATION LAB
New stories need space to grow.

After months of working on their early drafts, Creation Lab playwrights Medha Gautham and Yasna Khademian will bring their work to the stage for their first staged readings at the Roundhouse Community Centre this December.

vAct’s Creation Lab is dedicated to fostering the development of new theatrical works by emerging and mid-career Asian Canadian artists. We’re proud to continue investing in the next generation of Asian Canadian creators by giving them the space, resources, mentorship, and community to deepen their craft and share meaningful stories.

Come hear these stories while they’re still becoming.

JANUARY 2027 — BONNES BONNES
And then we’re kicking off 2027 with a bang.

vAct is thrilled to co-present Bonnes Bonnes by Tamara Nguyen and Sophie Gee, A Nervous Hunter Production from Montreal, alongside Théâtre la Seizième and Touchstone Theatre.

Bonnes Bonnes brings together documentary theatre, live on-stage cooking, projections, and movement to explore how we can heal from the wounds of internalized racism.
And yes — it’s also a big middle finger to everyone who ever made fun of the smell of our lunches at school.

Come experience this funny, fierce, deeply personal work in French, in English, or both.

COME BE PART OF WHAT’S NEXT.

From the first spark of an idea to the moment a story meets an audience, vAct is making space for Asian Canadian artists to experiment, grow, connect, and create.

This season, there’s something to make, something to discover, something to laugh about, something to question — and plenty of reasons to come together.

Come see what we’re making. Come make something with us. Come be part of the community.
